Right show
Right judge
Well the year has come and is going pretty fast ! Most of the shows around in this area have gone, there are a few left in Texas in November  .People are now looking forward to kidding out ready for next years wether shows and  ABGA  the National Western stock show the 13th of January being the first in this area .
That's one of my favorite shows ,although its not much fun traveling through all the bad weather to get there !
Judges all have to go to "judging" school and all get the same teachings on the boer goat standards.
Its  the judges own personal  preferences that  set each judge apart ,so you may go to a two day show win the first day and come last the second and I have done that !!! so do not be disheartened if you place badly on the fist day it all could change ! When you start going to shows on a regular basis you will learn what judges like and dislike about your herd ,for instance Wess Halman likes the old style of goat ,he likes lots of length of loin and  lots of butt  , he does not mind if the doe  is not  pretty and have a long neck .On the other hand Brian Farris likes the more slender smooth looking well balanced doe , he does NOT like fat goats (over conditioned ) .You just have to work out what you have in your herd and see what judge likes what and take them to those shows .I have a little of both in my show string ,I like to experiment and mix and match .Once in a while I will leave a goat home if I think the judge does not like that body type .Some breeders in the show world will follow certain judges ,the only problem with that is to Ennoble a goat you can not have all the points from one judge .
To Ennoble a goat you have to show him or her enough times to get 50 points then his off spring have to earn  30 points ,a minimum of 5 points each so you could have 3 off spring with 10 points each or six with 5 points each and that would be enough. The off spring have to be inspected by two different judges at or after 10 months of age in order for those points they have earned  to  qualify  for Ennoblement .you can look on the ABGA   website and get all the info on how many points you can earn in the classes .
This is an example of different body types ,both goats have won under different judges .
